Guardsman Cyber Security Centre Launch Signals New Era in Crime Prevention

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has issued a firm warning to criminals, while praising the strengthening of Jamaica’s cyber defense capabilities.

Prime Minister Holness stressed that the environment for crime has drastically changed, thanks to continued investment in national security and technology.

The Prime Minister stated: “Before you commit a crime, think very carefully that the environment that you used to operate in, it is not the same environment as before. What we have done is to change the risk reward function for crime. Before, you could commit a crime, and the probability is that you will not get caught. We have changed that. If you commit a crime today, the probability is that you will get caught.”

The country’s national security improvements have also been complimented with private sector investment in safety and security.

This as the Guardsman Group on Wednesday (May 14) launched the first of its kind Guardsman Cyber Intelligence Security Operations Centre (SOC).

The first of its kind in the Caribbean and represents a leap forward in Jamaica’s commitment to digital security and crime deterrence.

The SOC allows for real-time threat monitoring and advanced intelligence capabilities.

It is another symbol of Jamaica’s push toward a smarter, more secure society.

Prime Minister Holness also declared that Jamaica is now setting the pace for regional innovation.

“Friends, the opening of the Security Operating Centre marks a new chapter in the security landscape of our country and our region. It is a nerve centre that allows for 24/7 monitoring of systems and networks, real-time detection of malicious activity, rapid response to incidents, and proactive threat intelligence gathering from across the globe.”

Highlighting the need to redirect Jamaica’s youth from crime and anti-social behaviour, the Prime Minister emphasized that digital innovation offers a path away from crime.

“We have created the option. The same scammer can become a cybersecurity expert. And this needs to be said clearly to all our Jamaican youth that you are not operating in the time where crime is an option. Those days are over. If you get involved in crime, we know how to find you. We know how to locate you. And believe me, we have the capabilities to reach you. I urge you, do not get involved in crime.”

In the meantime, Dr. Holness commended the private sector’s role in national security and announced the partnership of the Jamaica Constabulary Force with the SOC.

The facility, built with regional insight and global tools, positions Jamaica as a leader in cybersecurity and a regional exporter of digital security services.
