Jamaica Welcomes CARICOM Leaders for 49th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)

Under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr. the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, Jamaica is hosting the 49th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Prime Minister Holness will lead the regional body for the next six months.

The official opening ceremony for CARICOM will take place yesterday (July 6) at 5 pm at the Montego Bay Convention Centre under the CARICOM theme, “People, Partnership, Prosperity: Promoting a Secure and Sustainable Future.”

During this meeting of CARICOM, Regional heads will have deliberations on a series of issues including trade, security cooperation, regional food security and climate resilience.

Dr. Holness will host several courtesy calls during the regional conference including with special guests Secretary General of INTERPOL, His Excellency Valdecy Urquiza and Secretary General of the  Organization of American States (OAS) His Excellency Ambassador Albert Ramdin.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) Technology Expo will also feature during the conference, with CARICOM leaders viewing the displays.

The 49th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM will close with a press conference led by Prime Minister and CARICOM Chairman, Dr. Andrew Holness, supported by his fellow heads and the Secretary General of CARICOM.

The 49th CARICOM heads meeting underscores the region’s shared commitment to deepening regional integration across vital areas including economic cooperation, social development, foreign policy alignment, and regional security.
