Prime Minister Holness Welcomes New President of the CCJ

Justice Winston Anderson Sworn In During Historic CARICOM Week in Jamaica
Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Honourable Andrew Holness has extended warm and sincere congratulations to the Honourable Mr. Justice Winston Anderson on his swearing in as the fourth President of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).
The official ceremony was held yesterday (July 6) at Jewel Grande, Montego Bay and was presided over by Governor-General, His Excellency Sir Patrick Allen, as part of the 49th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
Delivering remarks at the ceremony, Prime Minister Holness hailed Justice Anderson’s distinguished legal career, describing him as a legal luminary whose scholarship and jurisprudence have strengthened the region’s rule of law.
The Prime Minister stated “You bring to this office a distinguished legal mind, a profound commitment to Caribbean jurisprudence, and decades of service grounded in scholarship and vision. You bring to this presidency a wealth of experience, including being the founding chair of the Court’s Education at-Large, now known as the CCJ Academy for Law.”
The Prime Minister continued, “Over the years, you have contributed significantly to the development of both the original and appellate jurisdictions, authoring key judgments that have strengthened the rule of law across the region.”
Dr. Holness reaffirmed Jamaica’s full support for regional legal cooperation and emphasized the importance of the CCJ in advancing access to justice. “As we usher in this new presidency, let us embrace the next 20 years with confidence, shared ownership, and an unwavering belief in the CCJ as a cornerstone of Caribbean integration and development,” he affirmed.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to outgoing CCJ President, the Honourable Mr. Justice Adrian Saunders, for his exceptional leadership and transformative contributions. “We salute your 48-year legal career, marked by integrity, compassion, humour, and unwavering dedication to the rule of law,” Dr. Holness said. “Your legacy of judicial integrity, regional jurisprudence, and institutional excellence has profoundly shaped the CCJ, and we are most grateful for your service.”
Justice Winston Anderson has served on the CCJ bench since June 2010. His presidency begins as the Court celebrates 20 years of strengthening regional justice and integration.
