“The Portmore Resilience Park is no longer a promise; it’s no longer an idea. It is now coming nicely into a reality.”

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling commitments and delivering for the people of Jamaica.

Speaking on Friday (February 28) during a tour of the construction site for the Portmore Resilience Park, Prime Minister Holness said what was once a concept is now becoming a reality, demonstrating the government’s position of action over words.

“The Portmore Resilience Park is no longer a promise; it’s no longer an idea. It is now coming nicely into a reality; my record as Prime Minister has been to take almost all uncompleted, talked-about ideas and make the greatest effort to convert them into reality,” stated Prime Minister Holness.

The Resilience Park, which is scheduled to be complete by September this year, will be a modern, multifunctional public space designed to enhance the quality of life for Portmore residents. Features of the park will include a jogging trail with elevation for added intensity, a central pavilion, concession facilities, a covered hall for sports such as netball, basketball, and table tennis, outdoor courts, and beautifully landscaped green spaces with flowers and grass. Additionally, provisions for small businesses and a block of restrooms will ensure convenience for the residents of Portmore.

The Prime Minister says the park is the latest in the government’s ongoing plan, through the Urban Development Corporation (UDC), to build a park in every parish for Jamaicans to have green, recreational spaces where they can enjoy quality time outdoors.

Prime Minister Holness emphasized the importance of community stewardship in maintaining the park’s value and beauty.

“The Urban Development Corporation will be responsible for maintenance, but no matter how many wardens are there or how much we clean, if persons using the park discard waste improperly, it will take away from the park’s value. I implore everyone to care for the park as if it is your own front yard,” the Prime Minister urged.

This park will be called the Resilience Park as an embodiment of the values and ethos Jamaica holds dear.

“Resilience is a national value that we want to cultivate in all Jamaicans. Our ability to withstand adversity and recover from challenges defines us, and this park symbolizes that strength,” Prime Minister Holness added.

As the government continues to transform ambitious ideas into impactful developments, Prime Minister Holness noted that the Portmore Resilience Park stands as a testament to the administration’s commitment to action. The Prime Minister looks forward to its official opening and encourages all Jamaicans to embrace and enjoy this vibrant public space.
