Prime Minister Oversees Contract Signing for the Construction of New St. Catherine North Police Divisional Headquarters
Prime Minister Andrew Holness today oversaw the contract signing for the construction of the new St. Catherine North Police Divisional Headquarters of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), marking a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to strengthen Jamaica’s national security infrastructure.
The new headquarters will be located at Darling Pen, Spanish Town, and will cover 20,243 square meters. The facility will include a three-story building with a footprint of 13,203 square meters and a total floor area of 4,013 square meters. Key features of the new headquarters will include an electrical room, guard house, sewage disposal, stormwater drainage, paved areas, and boundary walls. The building design incorporates sustainable elements such as rainwater harvesting, passive cooling, natural lighting, solar energy, and flexible floor plans.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Holness emphasized the importance of this project within the broader context of Plan Secure Jamaica. He stated, “Today marks a significant step in our ongoing journey toward a safer, more secure Jamaica. This new facility is not just a building; it is a symbol of our commitment to transforming the JCF into a modern, transparent, and community-oriented organization. It represents our dedication to improving the working conditions of our police officers and enhancing the safety and security of our citizens.”
Prime Minister Holness also addressed the historical context and evolution of the JCF, stating, “The JCF is probably one of the oldest unbroken institutions in the country. It is an institution that we must be proud of. No society can grow and prosper without established law and order. The JCF is the first and the last bulwark in ensuring the rule of law and public order in Jamaica.”
Prime Minister Holness further highlighted the importance of public awareness and government transparency in infrastructure projects, saying, “It is important for the government to inform the public of its activities. And one of the ways in which it does this is by having ceremonies. A successful government marks a series of successful moments that accumulate to form a successful government.”
The new headquarters will serve as a central hub for the coordination of 13 police stations in the region, enabling faster response times and maintaining a stronger police presence within environing communities. The integration of advanced security technologies and e-Policing initiatives will further enhance the operational capabilities of the JCF.
Prime Minister Holness stated, “The first thing you want to do is to provide the people with the necessary public services so that they feel a part of the state. And that is why we have made this massive investment in literally transforming the infrastructure that serves our police officers and the communities they protect.”
The establishment of the new St. Catherine North Divisional Headquarters is a testament to the government’s dedication to building a safer Jamaica. With enhanced police presence, advanced technology, and a focus on community engagement, this project is expected to play a crucial role in reducing crime and fostering trust between the police and the citizens they serve.
