Significant Decline in Serious Crimes Reflects Improved National Security Measures

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has welcomed the latest crime statistics, which reveal a notable decline in serious crimes for the period January 1 to February 1, 2025.

The total number of reported serious crimes fell from 374 in 2024 to 294 in 2025, marking a significant reduction of 80 cases or 21.4%.

This downward trend signals a positive shift in crime prevention and control, reinforcing efforts by law enforcement authorities and community stakeholders.

Prime Minister Dr. Holness, has credited this achievement to enhanced policing strategies, improved community engagement, and the government’s commitment to strengthening national security.

“The continued decline in crime, particularly violent offenses, is a testament to the effectiveness of our security measures and the tireless efforts of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. Our investments in modern policing, intelligence gathering, and community partnerships are yielding results. While we acknowledge this progress, we remain resolute in our mission to further reduce crime and ensure that every Jamaican feels safe in their community,” said Prime Minister Holness.

The data from the latest Serious Crimes Report highlights significant reductions in major categories of crime:

  • Murder cases declined from 84 in 2024 to 73 in 2025, a reduction of 11 cases (13.1%).
  • Shooting incidents dropped from 87 to 78, reflecting a 10.3% decrease.
  • Injured persons decreased from 70 to 59, a decline of 15.7%.
  • Rape cases saw a dramatic reduction from 53 to 10, a decline of 81.1%.
  • Robberies fell from 61 to 54, a decrease of 11.5%
  • Break-ins declined from 89 to 79, down by 11.2%.
The Prime Minister commended the Jamaica Constabulary Force for their dedication and professionalism in executing crime-fighting strategies. He also urged citizens to continue working with law enforcement agencies by reporting criminal activities and remaining vigilant in their communities.

“Security is a shared responsibility. We encourage every Jamaican to play their part in keeping our nation safe. The government remains committed to providing the resources, policies, and legislative support necessary to sustain this positive momentum,” Prime Minister Holness added.

In the meantime, the Government remains steadfast in its efforts to strengthen crime-fighting initiatives and ensure that Jamaica is a safe place to live, work, and raise families.
