Annual Security Council Seminar

Annual Security Council Seminar

On Wednesday, The Office of the National Security Advisor hosted its second annual Security Seminar, focusing on the pressing issue of organized violence, a threat that affects us all in the region.

The seminar included participation from international speakers, local law enforcement experts, international development partners, heads of agencies, academia and other senior government officials.

Our primary objective is to initiate a comprehensive all-of-society endeavour aimed at catalysing a social and cultural transformation within the Jamaican society, steering it away from the vicious cycle of crime and violence and towards a virtuous cycle of peace, productivity, and prosperity.

Your government has already made significant strides in crime reduction through various measures, including:
-Investing in security initiatives and infrastructure, encompassing equipment acquisitions, infrastructural improvements, and the development of human capital.
-Enacting crucial legislation such as amendments to firearm regulations and bail laws.
-The deployment of the States of Public Emergency (SOE) measures to address security concerns, resulting in a reduction in murders within designated areas.

Collaboration and collective efforts remain vital as we strive to find sustainable solutions to this challenge.
