Contract Signing and Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Haven Housing Development

“You have given us hope and dignity; no longer we have shanty shacks, we will have a place where we can lay comfortably at nights”- Ms. Stewart, future apartment owner in Central Kingston.

On Thursday, we broke ground at 41 to 43 Hanover Street in Central Kingston for a development that will forever change the lives of 83 residents, including 38 children.

For generations, this community has been marked by struggle, yet it has also held on to resilience and hope. Many residents have lived in aging, crumbling structures. Under the New Social Housing Programme’s Big Yard and Tenement Yard modality, some of these old conditions will give way to a modern three storey apartment complex complete with a commercial space to serve the area.

More and more Jamaicans who never thought they could own a home will now have keys in their hands, a secure roof over their heads, and a chance to build a better future.

We are investing in our people because every Jamaican deserves to live in comfort, in safety, and with pride.
