$160 million in building supplies. That is a significant contribution, and on Friday, I joined ODPEM for the handing over of these materials donated by New Era Developments to support families rebuilding after Hurricane Melissa.

This donation speaks to the shared responsibility driving our recovery, Jamaicans working together across government, the private sector, civil society, and our diaspora to help communities rebuild.

Hurricane Melissa caused severe damage in St. Elizabeth, affecting homes, livelihoods, and entire communities. In the aftermath, neighbours helped neighbours, churches opened their doors, volunteers cleared roads, and support reached more than 145,000 people in the weeks following the hurricane.

We are now moving from relief into long-term recovery through the Shelter Restoration Programme. Thousands of homes have been assessed under the ROOFS Programme, and rebuilding is underway through coordinated government support.
