On Tuesday, on the historic grounds of Port Royal, we celebrated a momentous occasion: the naming and commissioning of the HMJS Marcus Garvey.

This Damen 5009 offshore patrol vessel represents a significant enhancement of our maritime capabilities and our unwavering commitment to the security and prosperity of Jamaica.

This vessel will improve our ability to protect Jamaica’s waters and ensure the safety of our seafarers and tourists.

It will also help fight illegal fishing, supporting our fishermen and preserving our ocean.

Named after Marcus Garvey, a hero who fought for black pride and economic independence, this ship represents our commitment to a secure and prosperous Jamaica.
