Community Rallies to Rebuild 90-Year-Old “Mass Joe’s” Home in St. Elizabeth
I am heartened by the incredible spirit of community and service recently displayed in New Town, St. Elizabeth. “Mass Joe,” a beloved 90-year-old resident, found himself exposed to the elements after Hurricane Melissa severely damaged his roof. Seeing the need, Superintendent Coleridge Minto and the St. Elizabeth Police Division stepped beyond their core duties to coordinate a restoration project that has restored safety, comfort, and renewed hope to this cherished senior citizen.
What made this effort especially meaningful was the scope of what was done. This was not simply a roof repair. The team replaced the entire roof, painted the house inside and outside, repaired the kitchen, replaced the mattress, cleaned and cleared the exterior, and installed new curtain rods with fresh curtains.
Member of Parliament Floyd Green generously donated the zinc sheets that made the roofing work possible. Brady’s Construction mobilized carpenters and labourers and funded the cost of lumber and other essential materials. I commend everyone who contributed to ensuring that Mass Joe can once again rest securely in his home. When we work together, there is no challenge we cannot overcome.
